ADHD Medication
Our Pharmacist prescriber offers an ADHD medication support and titration service for children and adults (ages 6 upwards) with an ADHD diagnosis either from Wren Psychology or with a diagnosis from other providers.
The following services are offered:
Initial Consultation with the prescriber (30 minutes)
Some clients are interested in finding out more about medication but not ready to start their own journey until they have had chance to discuss any queries with our prescriber first. We offer a chance for an initial consultation to answer questions you may have. If you go on to have the full initial assessment for medication, some of the fees will be deducted as you will have already completed some of the steps from this session.
Initial Assessment for medication and titration service
A chance for new patients to discuss medication options for the treatment of ADHD and come to a shared treatment plan. If you have a diagnosis report from another provider (other than Wren Psychology) our Clinical Psychologists will need to see your report in advance of this meeting to ensure your assessment has all the information we need and meets NICE guidelines for a thorough assessment. In cases where additional information is needed, we will let you know what is required. There is a fee for checking reports not completed by Wren Psychology.
Prior to the initial meeting you will need to have gathered some information from your GP and we can give you a letter to give to your GP outlining what is needed. This includes information such as height, weight, blood pressure and pulse together with a summary of your care record. This is so that we can be confident any medication we prescribe is completely safe and appropriate for you.
During the assessment, we will discuss the various ADHD pharmaceutical treatments, how they work, their side effects, benefits and costs, to enable you to come to an informed decision about what would work for you. We will then issue your first private prescription, which is sent to you via Royal Mail, to take to your local pharmacy.
Medication Reviews
These appointments are a chance for you to discuss treatment with your clinician.
Beforehand, we will need an up to date blood pressure, pulse and weight. This is so that we can see how the medication is affecting you. During the review we will discuss what is going well, what is going not so well and formulate a treatment plan from then on. This appointment includes the issue of your next prescription.
Each client responds differently to the medication and therefore there is not set number of reviews that might need to be completed before the titration process is complete. Once your medication is right for you and settled, your prescription services can be moved back to your GP for a shared care arrangement.
Not all GPs will accept shared care agreement and it will be important to ask your GP this question before embarking on this process. If your GP does not accept shared care we can continue to provide your prescriptions for you privately.
If you do move to shared care our Pharmacist can help you complete the paperwork needed for this. Prices are indicated below.
Review during shared care
Shared Care is a process by which your care is taken over by your GP practice, and the NHS. Once you have been stabilised on a medication dose which has proven to be safe and effective, we will complete the required paperwork and liaise with your surgery to establish a shared care agreement. Your GP will then take over the issuing of your prescriptions.
When you are moved to shared care arrangement you will require either 6 monthly or yearly medication review appointments with our team and the frequency may be specified by your GP.
Not all GPs will accept shared care and it will be important to ask your GP this question before embarking on this process. If your GP does not accept shared care we can continue to provide your prescriptions for you privately.
